The consortium has developed a Citizen Guide to 1.5° Lifestyles on how to reduce individual and household carbon footprints so everyone can move towards leading 1.5°C-compatible lifestyles and building 1.5° societies. During the thinking labs, workshops and discussions organised by the EU 1.5° Lifestyles project team in several countries and internationally, it has become clear that the Guide is also relevant for municipal and national level policymaking as well as business strategies, especially regarding prioritisation of climate action and goal setting, so in addition to citizens, we recommend it to a wide and varied audience.
In the Guide,
- we provide an overview what the 1.5° target means and whose responsibility it is to achieve it - or, rather, how responsiblity can and should be shared between all societal actors;
- we show the average components of a carbon footprint;
- we provide a detailed analysis of the lifestyle of two specific individuals (one with a small footprint and one with a large footprint) in order to illustrate that people are different;
- using a simple set of questions, we help readers determine whether their carbon footprint is likely to be smaller or larger.
- And, most importantly, we look at the lifestyle options for reducing the individual and household carbon footprint, the choices we can all make, and the difference between priority lifestyle options for an average citizen vs. a specific individual or household.
- Finally, we highlight the importance of community action and active energy citizenship.
