On October 1, 2024, the SISU consortium hosted the "Good Future Morning Coffee," a thought-provoking event focused on sustainable lifestyles and the essential changes needed in our mindset and societal frameworks. Professor Arto O. Salonen led the conversation, featuring insights from Jukka Kajan (Pro Vege ry), and Michael Lettenmeier (EU 1.5 Lifestyles project).
The discussion highlighted various strategies for reducing carbon footprints and the critical role of accepting imperfection in our journey toward meaningful change. A key takeaway was that 46% of the almost 200 participants found sustainable food choices the easiest to make, underscoring the potential for growth in plant-based alternatives within Finland’s food sector.
In today’s political climate, the focus on immediate financial impacts often overshadows long-term visions. Decision-makers need to consider both short-term and long-term effects, as the costs associated with climate change continue to rise. Ignoring necessary climate measures is not only detrimental but also the most expensive choice we can make.
