As the third year of the EU 1.5° Lifestyles comes to an end, the project results uncover pathways to achieve sustainable lifestyles in line with the Paris Agreement' s climate target.
Findings show that - despite ambitious technological changes – no EU countries nor regions will be able to reduce carbon footprints to 1.5° levels by 2050 without addressing additional lifestyle changes. This requires systemic structural reforms alongside impactful behavioural changes.
Such results have been presented during our last EU-level workshop, organised on December 11th in Brussels, that brought together policy makers and multi-stakeholders to discuss, exchange on and co-design strategies towards sustainable lifestyles in Europe.
In preparation for the discussion, a set of six policy briefs has been published to present the scientific evidence for policy makers on how lifestyle choices across mobility, nutrition, leisure and housing affect individual carbon footprints. The briefs explore how households' agency in adopting low-carbon lifestyles is constrained by economic, political and social barriers. The briefs offer guidance to policy makers on how policy interventions can be used to overcome these structural constraints and drive the widespread adoption of 1.5°C- aligned lifestyles.
As part of our media outreach activity, the project released its sixth press release covering the latest research outcomes. Discover more here.
