D-mat is a company founded by Michael Lettenmeier that employs experts in various fields, such as environmental sciences and policy, ecology, physics, service and industrial design, sustainable development, and business and economics. D-mat's goal is to promote a low-carbon and resource-wise life within the confines of one planet.

Our field of specialization includes carbon and material footprint calculations as well as research on sustainable lifestyles. We have done multiple different types of carbon and material footprint calculations for different stakeholders in addition to developing calculation tools, such as the Sitra Lifestyle test. One of the most remarkable research has been done together with e.g. IGES and Hot or Cool regarding the 1.5-Degree Lifestyles reports, which have been published in 2019 and 2021. Both editions cover different countries and their current carbon footprints, ways to reduce each country’s footprints and discussion on what are the most effective ways to mitigate climate change.

In addition, D-mat has also developed the Climate Puzzle, a planning tool for low-carbon lifestyles. The Climate Puzzle demonstrates how and how much our consumption habits should change to reach a climate-friendly lifestyle. It puts lifestyle carbon footprint results into perspective and offers over 100 sustainable actions for lowering the footprint. Relatedly, D-mat also organizes 1.5-Degree Lifestyles workshops and Sustainable Lifestyles Accelerators in Finland with different stakeholders. The workshops and accelerators introduce low carbon lifestyles to participants, as they get to calculate their carbon and material footprint and choose low carbon actions with the use of the Climate Puzzle. In the accelerators, the participants get to experiment with some of the actions during a one month test period. At the end of the test period, the participants' carbon and material footprints are recalculated in order to see how much they have decreased their footprints.
